My my, how far we've come in terms of technology these days, even
on consoles. Loading screens used to be standard in every game, with
waiting 10-30 seconds to play ten more minutes before another loading
screen was expected.
This generation changed that. From Call of Duty's four to six
second load for online levels to Uncharted's cutscenes where the level
is loaded in disguise, we've seen amazing stuff and now come to expect
it.
Following the footsteps of its console exclusive brothers, Killzone
3 will not have those dreaded loading screens. And I could not have
thought it would better for another game than this one (perhaps
Modnation Racers can get some help too). Loading screens lasted 20-30
seconds in Killzone 2, even longer for multiplayer games. The cool 3D
screens did distract us for a bit but often we sat there waiting for a
turn to take on the Helghan.
Herman Hulst, the managing director at Sony's first party studio,
Guerilla Games, has confirmed that Killzone 3 has come a long way
technologically and an example of that is the omission of loading
screens.
"We're excited what the PS3 can do for us and what we can do
for it... (speaking of loading screens), literally everything is
streamed now".
This can only be good news as we can expect a more story driven
game from cutscenes and the ability to always keep being in the action.
